The Ghost Detective (2018) 오늘의 탐정
Directed by Lee Jae-hoon.
I chose to watch this horror detective drama series because I saw some nice gif sets of the leads Daniel Choi and Park Eun-bin on Tumblr and I thought they looked great together. I’ve never seen Park Eun-bin in a series before and I have to say I really like her and her performance is good too. I saw Daniel Choi before in Ghost and liked him there. They make a nice couple in The Ghost Detective and have great chemistry.
I just finished watching episode 3 and I have to admit it took me some time to get into this. The plot of the first episode with the kidnapping case of the three kids is convoluted, to say the least, and the development of the case happens so fast that it becomes confusing. Fortunately it gets better with the next two episodes when the personal stories of the main couple are revealed. I was glad no new cases were introduced but it was a continuation of the kidnapping story and more about our lead characters. There was some eerie stuff too, which I hadn’t expected, some supernatural bits as well. Also things that aren’t explained yet. Why is Daniel Choi, (SPOILER AHEAD!) who dies and returns as a ghost, still able to interact with Park Eun-bin and physically touch her? Why can she see ghosts? What’s with the hearing aid which connects them to the past? And why is the mysterious woman in red coaxing people to commit suicide? I didn’t really have high hopes for this series, other than enjoying Daniel Choi and Park Eun-bin as a couple and hoping for some romance along the way, but I’m really curious now where the story’s leading to, and I hope it won’t be disappointing.
