The Sound of Magic

The Sound of Magic (2022) 안나라수마나라
Directed by Kim Seong-yoon, starring Ji Chang-wook, Choi Sung-eun and Hwang In-yeop.

Watched 2 - 3 December 2022 — 6 episodes (DRAMACOOL)

*Enjoyed this fantasy musical of 6 episodes much more than I thought I would and afterwards it still lingered in my mind and I played the songs on repeat on YouTube.
*It gets surprisingly dark, not at all the light fare I was expecting.
*There are some great songs, with the actors singing for real. Love the duets by the leads Ji Chang-wook and Choi Sung-eun, especially Don’t Make Me Dream and its reprise Annarasumanara.
*Such a great performance by the female lead Choi Sung-eun but unfortunately there’s not enough of Ji Chang-wook.
*Love Choi Sung-eun’s little sister, and the song the sisters share together after their dad ran off again made me cry.
*I loved Ji Chang-wook in his moments of despair, he plays it really well.
*Good production values and great images. That red car amidst a sea of yellow flowers!
*I love the message of not letting other people dictate your life and that it’s okay to dream and believe in magic. I truly dislike Hwang In-yeop’s parents for robbing their son of his dreams and forcing him to meet their expectations. I love how Ji Chang-wook’s magic helps Choi Sung-eun and Hwang In-yeop to heal and find their own path in life.
*I almost missed the curtain call show number where the entire cast makes an entrance (I already turned off the show when the end credits started rolling). But then I read about the bonus song in the comments on Dramacool and I was so happy somebody had mentioned it because it’s a fun number. So make sure you don’t miss it.
