Decided to put this Chinese series on hold for now. I had high hopes for it because of the favourable ratings and reviews, and had hoped I would like it as much as the high school drama When I Fly Towards You. But it doesn't even come close. I don't mind that there's little plot and I like the leads Julia Xiang Hanzhi (as Xia Linxi) and Wang Anyu (as Jiang Zhenghan) but I need more than that. I just can't connect with the side characters and don't like them very much. Xia Linxi's best friend and her bespectacled love interest are just annoying. I think the only side character I like is Xia Linxi's pretty and friendly roommate. The main couple was the only reason I kept watching but now I don't like the way their relationship develops. I like to see Jiang Zhenghan in love with Xia Linxi but somehow his sudden way of pursuing her (almost stalking) rubbed me the wrong way, and the scene in episode 10 where he hacks into a live feed and confesses his love publicly on screen was a bit embarrassing. I'm actually not really curious what will happen in the remaining episodes (I'm not even halfway through the series yet, so it's still a lot of episodes to watch). So on hold for now, but maybe dropping it for good.
*Other series ON HOLD: Descendants of the Sun (2016) and Once Upon a Small Town (2022). Might be dropping these two series, as I have no desire to finish them.
