Currently Watching: Marry My Husband

Marry My Husband (2024) 내 남편과 결혼해줘
Directed by Park Won-gook, starring Park Min-young and Na In-woo.

My two sisters praise this show and it has also been sitting on my watchlist since it aired. I felt like watching a series with a bit of romance so I finally chose this. The story premise of a terminally ill woman being killed by her husband and best friend, who have an affair, and then getting a second chance in life appealed to me. I don't usually like revenge stories but I love time travel a lot and the idea of making a change in the past to alter the future.

Having seen 5 episodes now, I love seeing Park Min-young getting more confident while feeling the support of the male protagonist Na In-woo and of her two female co-workers Choi Gyu-ri (turns out to be the sibling of Na In-woo) and Gong Min-jung. Love the womance here!
I didn't really like Na In-woo's character right away (I like the actor, though). In the beginning there were just too many instances where Na In-woo catches Park Min-young while falling. He was just always there, following her around. I don't like it very much when a superior shows a romantic interest in his employee, it always feels a bit uncomfortable. At first his romantic pursuit seemed to be the only thing to define his character. Fortunately we now know a bit of his backstory. And it's thrilling!

(SPOILER AHEAD) Not only has our OTP met a long time ago — they met in 2005 while at university — but Na In-woo has harboured feelings for Park Min-young all this time, then missed his chance when she got married. So when she came to work at his firm, he already liked her. We see him grieve at her funeral in 2023 and witness the arrest of Park Min-young's husband and her best friend for murder. Then Na In-woo gets in a fatal car accident, travels back in time and also gets a second chance in life. So now his romantic pursuit makes sense and why he wants to protect Park Min-young at all costs. He knows what's going to happen in 2023 and is determined to prevent this.

By the way ... Park Min-young looks good after the make-over, in the white dress at the school reunion, but she's too skinny. Apparently she lost weight for her role in this drama. It's too bad her full cheeks are gone but at least she looks like Park Min-young when she smiles brightly. Anyway, I'm excited to finish this series the coming week (hopefully!).
