Your House Helper

Your House Helper (2018) 당신의 하우스헬퍼
Directed by Jeon Woo-sung and Im Se-joon.

Watched 18 - 24 October 2023 — 32 episodes (DRAMACOOL)

*Watched this drama for the male lead Ha Seok-jin whom I liked in the previously watched Something About 1%. Also, I love slice-of-life dramas and the story premise sounded very appealing. I like Ha Seok-jin here and the way he looks. His character, a male version of Marie Kondo, is a bit aloof, strict but gentle, and apart from helping people with decluttering and cleaning their houses, he also cleans their minds and lives. On top of that he cooks meals and gives tips for cleaning.
*Greatest flaw of the show is that there is no romantic chemistry at all between the main leading couple.
*I didn’t like the female lead actress Bona very much at first and her character is a bit stupid. Initially she’s weak and seems prone to making mistakes (e.g. the missing note with the number; having forgotten the presentation file; slipping and scattering the content of her bag including the birth control pills all over the floor, et cetera). She’s very young and her infatuation with Ha Seok-jin after their first kiss seems like puppy love. Yet at times I also found her cute, the way she reacted when she had a date with Ha Seok-jin. It was very relatable. Fortunately her character has a nice development and becomes stronger and more mature. I liked her best in her emotional and serious moments. I also loved the relationship between her and her female boss Lee Min-young.
*I liked how they handled the storyline with the girl (Jeon Soo-jin) being in love with her gay male friend (Lee Do-gyeom).
*The scene with the flying cockroach was hilarious!
*We end with more couples than I had anticipated. The lawyer Lee Ji-hoon and his nervous antics were a bit too much but he was also very sweet. I didn’t really find him a good match with Go Won-hee and I didn’t feel her infatuation with him but they shared some nice scenes. The nail artist (Seo Eun-ah) and the bartender (Yeon Jun-seok) were sweet together too. I love the fact that they paired the female boss (Lee Min-young) with the nice co-worker (Im Ji-gyu) and that the gangster (Jo Hee-bong) didn’t die and met the male lead’s ex-girlfriend in the hospital. Talk about a neat wrap-up!
*Though I didn’t feel the love between our main couple, luckily we did get a proper kiss scene, instigated by her. It also seems she’s more into him than he is into her.
*All in all an enjoyable watch with some emotional moments that made me almost shed a tear.
