Currently Watching: A Good Day to Be a Dog, The Crowned Clown, Two Weeks, Welcome to Samdal-ri, Tell Me That You Love Me

A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023):  started watching 8 November 2023 (9/14 episodes)
Currently watching 5 series simultaneously which is a first! I like this show and the chemistry between the main couple Park Gyu-young and Cha Eun-woo. But having watched episode 9, I hope it doesn't go downhill. The appeal of the first part of the series was the secret of the curse, the dog part, the leads not being an item yet but clearly liking each other. I always get a bit impatient when the leads have become a romantic couple and are at the start of their relationship and we get an overload of cutesy scenes of them holding hands, etc., and sometimes these scenes are just fillers and do nothing to move the plot forward. I'm hoping, and expecting, something will happen to burst their romantic bubble and drive them apart, temporarily. Also, I like a bit of mystery, and I like secrets from the past, in this case we even go as far as the Joseon period. But ... I don't really like the second male lead and the female student who's also in the scenes of the past. It could make for a compelling twist or development of the story, though, and since our main couple is somehow also involved in their story, I'm still eager to watch the next episodes and find out.

The Crowned Clown (2019): started watching 22 November 2023 (3/16 episodes)
This is my first ever costume drama from the Joseon period. I chose to watch this series because I like the story premise and it's highly praised. I also like the female lead Lee Se-young. I've never seen the male lead Yeo Jin-goo before but he's really good, performing a dual role. This is going to be a drama with lots of intrigue and I will continue soon. Love the music and beautiful cinematography. (By the way, the gif shown here is from an episode I haven't seen yet.)

Two Weeks (2013): started watching 30 November 2023 (9/16 episodes)
Never seen the male lead Lee Joon-gi before but my elder sister loves him. He's indeed a good actor, especially in his emotional scenes. And he's actually more attractive than I thought he would be, only seen him in photos and stills. He clearly carries this drama, playing a man accused of committing two murders, on the run from the authorities in order to clear his name and save his little daughter's life. The child actress is too cute, by the way. I like how Lee Joon-gi encounters different people on his journey and you get to know his character better from these interactions. Initially I only liked Lee Joon-gi and found the other characters not very appealing. But I like the romance between him and the girl's mother (Park Ha-sun), and the second male lead/cop (Ryu Soo-young) is okay too. (Nice tidbit: Park Ha-sun and Ryu Soo-young met on the set of Two Weeks, started dating in 2014 and got married in 2017.) The female prosecutor is pretty awful, though. Kim So-yeon cannot act and her character is not believable at all.

Welcome to Samdal-ri (2023): started watching 4 December 2023 (2/16 episodes)
Another ongoing series, just four episodes have been aired (eps. 3 & 4 just this weekend which I still need to watch). I like the leads Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun (I've never seen her before in a series, though), the island setting, the Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha vibe, and I'm looking forward to see all three sisters finding love. Not totally loving the show yet, but having high hopes for it.
Tell Me That You Love Me (2023): started watching 4 December 2023 (4/16 episodes)
Of all the 5 series I'm currently watching, this is the one that I would binge-watch if it would have been aired completely. But as it happens, this ongoing series (my 3rd) has only 4 episodes broadcasted. I love this show! The main couple Jung Woo-sung and Shin Hyun-been (she reminded me of Shin Min-a at times) have great chemistry and Jung Woo-sung is totally convincing as a deaf man. I've never seen this veteran actor before but he's very good and there's so much emotion displayed on his face and in his eyes. Shin Hyun-been is also good and I like her. Love the silence, the slow-burn of a romance, the beautiful music and photography. I also love the second couple, they are cute together and provide some humour. I hope it doesn't have a sad ending but I understood that the original Japanese version doesn't end well so I'm prepared.
