Currently Watching: Hospital Playlist, Welcome to Waikiki

Hospital Playlist (2020): started watching 19 May 2024 (4/12 episodes)
This series is one of the highest rated and most popular of all medical K-dramas, so I have high expectations. It follows a group of five doctors who are long-time friends of 20 years. They are colleagues now and also perform together in a band. Watching this with my sister, I was really looking forward to it but I have to say we were both not immediately captured by this show. A lot has to do with the introduction of numerous characters which makes it confusing and you don't immediately engage with a specific person. Having only watched 4 episodes, I know I will be more engrossed with the series as I slowly get to know the main characters better. I already like the characters, and I know there will be romance as well. For now I'm mainly interested in the romantic relationships between Jo Jung-suk as Lee Ik-jun and Jeon Mi-do as Chae Song-hwa (I know they will eventually get together in season 2), and between Yoo Yeon-seok as Ahn Jeong-won and Shin Hyun-bin as Jang Gyeo-ul (seen her in Tell Me That You Love Me). I will continue watching very soon.

Welcome to Waikiki (2018): started watching 23 May 2024 (4/20 episodes)
I never had this series on my radar, I thought it wasn't something I would be interested in. Then I was looking for a funny K-drama and this one came up repeatedly and I decided to check out the cast. Never knew that Kim Jung-hyun (the second male lead from Crash Landing on You) is part of the main cast, so that's already an incentive to watch this because I really like him. It's also pitched as a Korean version of Friends, or something between Friends and Three Men and a Baby. The story premise of three young men wanting to make it big in the film industry and opening a guest house in order to make money first is also appealing. I have watched 4 episodes so far and really love it. At times it's hilarious, even though much of the humour is over the top. I like all the main quirky characters and I love the fact that apart from the humour there is also room for emotional and heartwarming moments. Jung In-sun (from My Secret Terrius), as a single mother, is paired here with Kim Jung-hyun and I love the development of their relationship. And the baby is just the cutest!
