The Atypical Family (2024) 히어로는 아닙니다만
Directed by Jo Hyun-tak, starring Chun Woo-hee and Jang Ki-yong.
I was very doubtful whether to continue watching this ongoing series. I had seen two episodes so far and didn't like the characters very much. My elder sister is watching this as well, and she says the series is definitely improving, so today I gave episode 3 a try. I'm still not a fan, but I see potential. I'm mostly interested in the relationship between the lead characters Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee) and Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong), and I like the time-travel aspect. Gwi-ju's depression and alcoholism made him lose his ability to time-travel but in ep. 3 he regains his superpower. Yet he discovers that he can only travel back in time to moments he spent with Da-hae, and in the black-and-white world from the past she's the only one in colour and the only one whom he can touch. There's also a future self of Gwi-ju but I haven't figured out yet how that works. For now Da-hae is still a mystery woman and I'm eager to find out more about her and her involvement with the Bok family.
Gwi-ju's teenage daughter is my fave character so far and I can see a friendship blooming between her and Da-hae in the near future. At present I don't really like the fact that Da-hae is trying to gain the daughter's trust while being a con-artist and having an ulterior motive, but somehow I feel Da-hae is a reluctant con and her feigned feelings of affection towards the girl will undoubtedly become genuine.
Fortunately this series has only 12 episodes — the last two will air this upcoming weekend — and though I'm not seeing myself binge-watching this, I've decided to finish it. Hopefully the characters get more likeable and there's a nice romance.
Also watching: What Happens to My Family? and Criminal Minds.
