Military Prosecutor Doberman (2022) 군검사 도베르만
Directed by Jin Chang-kyu, starring Ahn Bo-hyun and Jo Bo-ah.
Watched 27 July - 4 August 2024 — 16 episodes (NETFLIX)
*Finished this series yesterday and really enjoyed it. Ahn Bo-hyun as Do Bae-man and Jo Bo-ah as Cha Woo-in have great chemistry. I was happy with the 'romance'. It's very subtle with just enough hints. For instance ... when they are both on suspension, they share a video call, and Do Bae-man is showing himself to Cha Woo-in while holding the dog. There's some awkward tension between them, which is a clear indication of something blossoming. I also love ep. 10 where Bae-man is sad about a year-old case, and he goes out drinking by himself. Woo-in finds him drunk and takes him to his home. When she wants to leave, he grabs her hand while a tear drops from his eye. Such an intimate moment.

*It didn't really start affectionate between them and I thought it was shocking how Woo-in intentionally caused Bae-man's car accident (by flipping the car) in order to trigger his memory.
*I really like Ahn Bo-hyun and his tall physique. Korean actors look sooo good in suits! But the lipstick ... Ugh! Ahn Bo-hyun's character is morally grey and I didn't like him being money-crazy and corrupt, but all this changes when he meets Woo-in.

*Both Bae-man and Woo-in don't shy away from using violence in order to achieve what they want. Woo-in even cuts off a villain's finger. One has to suspend disbelief seeing her in action, fighting a whole group of gangsters by herself, but she has her magic weapons! High heels and a red wig! Ha!
*The gang of bad guys, headed by Seol Ak, is a bit laughable and it gives off The Fiery Priest vibes. Yet the real villains are the higher-ups, especially Oh Yeon-soo as Major General No Hwa-young, and Kim Young-min as Yong Moon-goo, the corrupt lawyer.

*Kim Woo-seok as No Tae-nam gives a terrific performance. The actor benefits from the best written character of the show. I love his redemption arc and was glad he didn't die. In the end he's shown working at the dog shelter and seems happy.
*Love the assistants of the main couple, Go Geon-han as Yoon Sang-gi and Kim Han-na as Ahn Yu-ra. I also love Do Bae-man's auntie, a veteran homicide detective, and I love her relationship with her nephew. I especially like the scene in ep. 15 where Bae-man visits his aunt at her home and walks in on her dinner date with his superior. I love how happy Bae-man is for his aunt and how she expresses her wish for him and Cha Woo-in to be a couple. The aunt and Bae-man's superior provide the comic relief.

*I was glad Kang Young-seok as Kang Ha-joon, owner of Kang's Solution, didn't really become a bad guy but had his own agenda. I didn't like the direction the love triangle with Bae-man and Cha Woo-in was going (both men being jealous), so it was a good thing Kang Ha-joon was temporarily considered to be the bad guy by his friends.
*I found the episodes with the mass shooting and its aftermath by far the most exciting parts. I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed with the courtroom sections. In terms of exciting and sharp cross-examinations it falls short. I had expected our lead prosecutors to have great interrogation skills but it was just average. Fortunately the script decided that all the bad guys had to go to prison.

*Overall I had a good time with the series and the characters.
*There is a KISS in the final episode and the final scene, but the camera cuts away and we only see the main couple between the trees and the suggestion of a kiss.
