Connection (2024) 커넥션
Directed by Kim Moon-kyo, starring Ji Sung and Jeon Mi-do.
*Finished this show today (last episode being aired yesterday) and I'm glad to say it totally delivered. It maintains the fast pace throughout and gives enough twists and turns to keep the viewer fully engaged. I love the leads Ji Sung and Jeon Mi-do, yet was slightly disappointed there was no romance. At one point they were both very worried about each other but it was just a display of friendship and nothing else.

*The story about the distorted friendship of a group of high school friends and the investigation into the murder of one of these friends is compelling and made me binge this series till I had to wait for new episodes to air. This is a case of What's a little murder and betrayal between friends? and it was thrilling and unsettling to see the friends stab each other in the back. Most of these friends are so twisted, the only ones who are to be trusted are Ji Sung, Jeon Mi-do and Jung Soon-won (as the CEO of an insurance company, who is in love with Jeon Mi-do).
*I like the fact that there was more emphasis on the investigation of the friend's murder than on Ji Sung's drug addiction. I had feared that it would be uncomfortable to watch Ji Sung experience addiction symptoms but it was very reassuring that Jeon Mi-do's reporter character knew about his addiction from almost the beginning.
*I love Ji Sung's female chief. She's been always on his side and trusts him completely. I was worried that she might die during an undercover operation but fortunately she lived.
*The cast is very good. The actors suit their characters well and especially Kwon Yul as the prosecutor is terrific.
*I was happy with the final episode and the perfect ending. Loose ends were tied up, and show had still a final twist up its sleeve. Fortunately they left enough screen time for the three friends (Ji Sung, Jeon Mi-do and Jung Soon-won) to get together and have a proper happy ending. I was worried that the case would take up most of the episode and that they would rush the ending with our favourite threesome. But it was very satisfying and I loved it! Bumped up my rating for that ending! Thank you, writers!
*One more thing: when in the last episode the three friends helped the widow of their murdered friend with her move and they watched an old video together when they were high school friends, happy and carefree, I got teary-eyed. It was such a heartwarming moment and it showed how much they cared about their friend.
